It’s difficult to find activities that are fun in the winter because of the cold weather outside, but Idaho offers plenty of winter hobbies you can pick up with the plethora of snow we receive. The Idaho Reverse Mortgage team has compiled a short list of fun hobbies to pick up during the remainder of this winter season. Check it out!
Skiing/Snowboarding
Idaho is the perfect place to ski or snowboard, so obviously this activity would be at the top of our list. Located in Boise, we are around a few different great ski resorts that don’t require too much travel time. Bogus Basin is an easy 40-minute drive from downtown; Tamarack is about an hour and a half out of Boise; and Brundage is only about a 2-hour drive. If you’re still working, Bogus Basin offers night skiing so you’re able to head up to the mountain after work. Skiing is a great way to get you into amazing shape while having fun with your loved ones!
Snowshoeing
Snowshoeing, like skiing, is a great way to get a solid workout in. Boise boasts a massive, well-maintained trail system that is ideal for snowshoeing. If you want a little change of scenery, there are some outstanding snowshoe trails around Payette Lake in McCall. Snowshoes can be relatively expensive, but they are definitely a good investment because they’ll last you a lifetime with proper care.
Ice Fishing
Ice fishing, unlike the other two activities, is not as physically demanding. This hobby is a better fit for you if you like a more relaxed activity and have a lot of patience. It can be very expensive to get started in ice fishing as you’ll have to buy an auger, which will most likely be your most expensive piece of equipment. In the winter, Lake Cascade will freeze over enough for you to safely be on the ice. This is a great opportunity to get outside, relax, and catch some dinner!
