Supplemental Financial Resources for Seniors

An elderly couple walk down a country lane.

When you’re living on a fixed income, as many retirees do, the budget can get a little tight. Sometimes a bill is higher than anticipated, or you have unexpected expenses pop up like urgent medical care. By taking advantage of available resources for seniors, you can help to offset some of those costs.
At Idaho Reverse Mortgages, we care about your financial needs. That’s why we want you to know about the many options available to you so that you can make the best decision for your retirement.

The AARP Foundation

The AARP Foundation is a great resource to contact when you aren’t quite sure where to start. They have many different resources at their disposal and can help connect you with what you need when you need it most.

Eldercare

Another excellent organization to contact if you need a helping hand but are overwhelmed by all of the information out there: Eldercare. Established in 1991, Eldercare works to connect seniors with local resources, from meals and transportation for seniors to training and education for caregivers.

Meal Provision

Whether you need a little relief from your grocery bill or you’d like (or even need) a little help with meal preparation, there are resources available to you to give you the helping hand you deserve. Aside from local senior center facilities, you may also qualify for assistance from at least two more national programs.

Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP)

A great resource for low-income seniors, the CSFP is a program run by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) to ensure those 60 and older have access to healthy, nutrient-rich foods each month, provided in a USDA approved food package.

Meals on Wheels

Everyone has heard about Meals on Wheels, but it provides seniors with so much more than just nutrition. With daily meal drop-offs, you also get daily socialization, and you have the comfort of knowing that you will have someone stopping by to say a friendly hello and check on your wellbeing every day. This can not only bring you happiness daily; it can also extend the length of time that you stay in your own home.

PACE

If you’ve been injured or ill, and there’s a possibility that you need assisted living levels of care, then PACE may be an option for you. A Medicare/Medicaid program, PACE provides home care for you based on your financial need if you are still safe to live at home and just need a helping hand as you recover and/or age.

Reverse Mortgages

There are many benefits that come from a reverse mortgage, and it may be a great fit for your financial needs. Not only do you get to stay in your own home as long as you want and are able to, but you also get some extra financial security for those rainy days. Contact the team at Idaho Reverse Mortgage today to determine if you qualify!
